Renal lithiasis, pancreatitis, diverticulitis and gout

What are kidney stones?

Renal lithiasis: Commonly known as “kidney stones”, renal lithiasis can be of several types. Some types, such as calcium oxalate lithiasis, are closely linked to dietary habits.

Pancreatitis: Acute or chronic, pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas that can greatly affect digestion and nutrient absorption. Dietary adjustment is necessary, particularly in cases of chronic pancreatitis.

Diverticulitis: Diverticulitis is a complication of diverticulosis. Stool and bacteria become trapped in diverticula (the small sacs or pouches that form along the intestinal mucosa). Bacteria can lead to infection.

Diverticulosis: Diverticulosis is characterized by the formation of small sacs or pouches in the large intestine. These sacs are called diverticula.

Gout: Gout is the most common form of inflammatory arthritis, affecting more than one million Canadians.

Gout can occur when there is too much uric acid in the blood. Uric acid is produced by the breakdown of purines, which are found in the foods we eat.
