Craniosacral approach

What is the craniosacral approach?

Unlike many therapeutic approaches, osteopathy devotes a lot of time to the head and cranium. In order to optimize the physical and mental health of the patient, it is essential to release cranial tensions that are connected to the sacrum (a triangular bone found at the bottom of the spine, just before the coccyx). The craniosacral approach therefore consists of evaluating and treating the malleability of the tissues between these two extremities using fine and precise palpation. The cranium and the sacrum are connected by the spinal column, the spinal cord and the tissues surrounding it, including the dura mater, which lines the inside of the skull and attaches to the sacrum and coccyx. The mobility of this structural ensemble is the basis of the craniosacral approach.

Why evaluate the craniosacral system?

As a structure that connects several regions of the body, including the head, the spine and, by the same token, all the nerves of the body, a disruption of the craniosacral system can be involved in multiple problems encountered in the clinic.
